Displacement
When my grandmother passed away in December 2010, my family began the process of splitting up the estate among eight siblings. It became clear that it was not going to be an option to keep the family home which had served for many years as our large family's meeting grounds. We lost our matriarch. She was an essential part of our family coming together, but it was clear that there was no single person in the family that was in a position to take on the house. We had to sell it.
The images shown here are from my family's last reunion in the house. It was the last time I was to see the house before my grandmother's things were removed. In many ways, it was our most difficult reunion, but I was able to capture a few glimpses of what my family was. It used to be so easy for everyone to come together in that house, but we have to move on. We have to find a new way to remain close.
